De fiecare data cand auzim vorbindu-se despre tehnologia “peer to peer”a.k.a P2P, multi dintre noi se gandesc la trafic cu programe proprietare care incalca legea drepturilor de autor. Pe langa utilizarea abuziva, aceasta tehnologie ofera acces utilizatorilor de distributii linux sa descarce copii ale sistemului de operare folosit. In cazul si mai bun tehnologia poate fi folosita pentru a crea un motor de cautare independent de cele existente precum Google, Yahoo sau Bing, in care fiecare utilizator poate contribui si unde activitatea sa nu este monitorizata.
Am tot vorbit despre tehnologia “peer to peer”,dar pana la urma ce reprezinta ea? Peer-to-peer (P2P) computing or networking is a distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or workloads among peers. Peers are equally privileged, equipotent participants in the application. They are said to form a peer-to-peer network of nodes. Peers make a portion of their resources, such as processing power, disk storage or network bandwidth, directly available to other network participants, without the need for central coordination by servers or stable hosts. Peers are both suppliers and consumers of resources, in contrast to the traditional client–server model where only servers supply (send), and clients consume (receive).
Motorul de cautare care foloseste aceasta tehnologie se numeste Yacy. Ce este Yacy? YaCy is a free search engine that anyone can use to build a search portal for their intranet or to help search the public internet. When contributing to the world-wide peer network, the scale of YaCy is limited only by the number of users in the world and can index billions of web pages. It is fully decentralized, all users of the search engine network are equal, the network does not store user search requests and it is not possible for anyone to censor the content of the shared index. Programul in sine este pus la dispozitie sub Licenta GPL si astfel oricine este bine venit sa contribuie. Yacy este disponibil atat pentru utilizatorii de distributii linux dar si de windows sau mac si poate fi obtinut prin download de pe pagina principala din Meniul Download aflat in partea dreapta sus. Ca o concluzie la acest articol adaug faptul ca desi multi utilizatori romani vad tehnologia P2P ca pe o unealta pentru piraterie, altii o folosesc pentru a face lucruri care nu creaza prejudicii oferind o sansa de implicare celor care doresc sa o faca. :)
